The Cave
وَٱضْرِبْand set forth لَهُمto them مَّثَلًاthe example رَّجُلَيْنِof two men: جَعَلْنَاwe provided لِأَحَدِهِمَاfor one of them جَنَّتَيْنِtwo gardens مِنْof أَعْنَٰبٍgrapes وَحَفَفْنَٰهُمَاand we bordered them بِنَخْلٍwith date palms وَجَعَلْنَاand we placed بَيْنَهُمَاbetween both of them زَرْعًاcrops٣٢ Āyah 32
كِلْتَاeach ٱلْجَنَّتَيْنِ(of) the two gardens ءَاتَتْbrought forth أُكُلَهَاits produce وَلَمْand not تَظْلِمdid wrong مِّنْهُof it شَيْـًٔاanything وَفَجَّرْنَاand we caused to gush خِلَٰلَهُمَاwithin them نَهَرًاa river٣٣ Āyah 33
وَكَانَand was لَهُۥfor him ثَمَرٌfruit فَقَالَso he said لِصَٰحِبِهِۦto his companion وَهُوَwhile he يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓ(was) talking with him أَنَا۠i am أَكْثَرُgreater مِنكَthan you مَالًا(in) wealth وَأَعَزُّand stronger نَفَرًا(in) men٣٤ Āyah 34
وَدَخَلَand he entered جَنَّتَهُۥhis garden وَهُوَwhile he ظَالِمٌ(was) unjust لِّنَفْسِهِۦto himself قَالَhe said مَآnot أَظُنُّi think أَنthat تَبِيدَwill perish هَٰذِهِۦٓthis أَبَدًاever٣٥ Āyah 35
وَمَآand not أَظُنُّi think ٱلسَّاعَةَthe hour قَآئِمَةًwill occur وَلَئِنand if رُّدِدتُّi am bought back إِلَىٰto رَبِّىmy lord لَأَجِدَنَّi will surely find خَيْرًاbetter مِّنْهَاthan this مُنقَلَبًا(as) a return٣٦ Āyah 36
قَالَsaid لَهُۥto him صَاحِبُهُۥhis companion وَهُوَwhile he يُحَاوِرُهُۥٓwas talking to him أَكَفَرْتَdo you disbelieve بِٱلَّذِىin خَلَقَكَcreated you مِنfrom تُرَابٍdust ثُمَّthen مِنfrom نُّطْفَةٍa minute quantity of ثُمَّthen سَوَّىٰكَfashioned you رَجُلًا(into) a man٣٧ Āyah 37
لَّٰكِنَّا۠but as for me هُوَhe ٱللَّهُ(is) allah رَبِّىmy lord وَلَآand not أُشْرِكُi associate بِرَبِّىٓwith my lord أَحَدًاanyone٣٨ Āyah 38
وَلَوْلَآand why (did you) not إِذْwhen دَخَلْتَyou entered جَنَّتَكَyour garden قُلْتَsay مَاwhat شَآءَallah wills; ٱللَّهُallah wills; لَا(there is) no قُوَّةَpower إِلَّاexcept بِٱللَّهِwith allah إِنif تَرَنِyou see أَنَا۠me أَقَلَّlesser مِنكَthan you مَالًا(in) wealth وَوَلَدًاand children٣٩ Āyah 39
فَعَسَىٰit may be رَبِّىٓthat my lord أَنthat my lord يُؤْتِيَنِwill give me خَيْرًاbetter مِّنthan جَنَّتِكَyour garden وَيُرْسِلَand will send عَلَيْهَاupon it حُسْبَانًاa calamity مِّنَfrom ٱلسَّمَآءِthe sky فَتُصْبِحَthen it will become صَعِيدًاground زَلَقًاslippery٤٠ Āyah 40
أَوْor يُصْبِحَwill become مَآؤُهَاits water غَوْرًاsunken فَلَنso never تَسْتَطِيعَyou will be able لَهُۥto find it طَلَبًاto find it٤١ Āyah 41
وَأُحِيطَand were surrounded بِثَمَرِهِۦhis fruits فَأَصْبَحَso he began يُقَلِّبُtwisting كَفَّيْهِhis hands عَلَىٰover مَآwhat أَنفَقَhe (had) spent فِيهَاon it وَهِىَwhile it (had) خَاوِيَةٌcollapsed عَلَىٰon عُرُوشِهَاits trellises وَيَقُولُand he said يَٰلَيْتَنِىoh i wish لَمْi had not associated أُشْرِكْi had not associated بِرَبِّىٓwith my lord أَحَدًاanyone٤٢ Āyah 42
وَلَمْand not تَكُنwas لَّهُۥfor him فِئَةٌa group يَنصُرُونَهُۥ(to) help him مِنother than دُونِother than ٱللَّهِallah وَمَاand not كَانَwas مُنتَصِرًا(he) supported٤٣ Āyah 43
هُنَالِكَthere ٱلْوَلَٰيَةُthe protection لِلَّهِ(is) from allah ٱلْحَقِّthe true هُوَhe خَيْرٌ(is the) best ثَوَابًا(to) reward وَخَيْرٌand (the) best عُقْبًا(for) the final end٤٤ Āyah 44
